Job Description

Responsible for:

  • Maintaining the required quality and output in doing the tasks as outlined below, to
  • ensure the Nursery's Business Goals are met
  • Following nursery policies and procedures, ensuring safe working at all times
  • Ensuring all work is carried out effectively and in line with stated best practice

    Outline of Job:

    A Crop Protection Technician who will support the Lead Crop Protection Specialist in delivering the ICM and other programmes to keep the crops free from pest, disease and weed damage.

    Primary Objectives:

  • Carrying out a range of specialist tasks within the department as specified below
  • Complying with BOPP and other external audit requirements
  • Supporting the Lead Crop Protection Specialist to carry out other tasks as required

    Specific Tasks and Responsibilities:

    Capable of undertaking personally the tasks listed below to the agreed quality standard and

    time schedules.

    Crop Protection

  • Controlling weeds in the crop and maintaining weed-free non-crop areas such as roads,
  • and around structures and boundaries
  • Ensuring work areas are left clean and tidy at the end of each working day
  • Monitoring and ensuring efficient and effective application of plant protection products
  • Applying, recording and monitoring biological controls
  • Would expect to be put on the NRoSO register and collect CPD points by attending
  • workshops and other training events
  • Ensuring that legal requirements for product and storage are met
  • Supporting the Lead Crop Protection Specialist where asked in:
  • Monitoring the spread of pest, disease and weed
  • Ensuring appropriate stocks of plant protection products and equipment are held
  • Investigating technology available to improve application of pesticides and enhance
  • safety and efficiency

    Health & Safety

  • Ensuring you work safely and comply with relevant legislation, established Nursery procedures, Risk and COSHH Assessments
  • Checking and recording correct working of spraying equipment (e.g. calibration of
  • ·nozzles)
  • Actively contributing toward the safe and efficient running of the Nursery by
  • participating in Risk Assessment reviews and Best Practice Workshops where relevant
  • Ensuring daily and weekly equipment checks are carried out, reporting any issues to Lead
  • Crop Protection Specialist or Line Manager and if required, Maintenance Supervisor
  • Disposing of all waste in accordance with company policy
  • Using correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where appropriate and necessary

    Team Working & Communication

  • Communicating requirements and issues promptly to Lead Crop Protection Specialist or Line Manager
  • Liaising with other team members and Departments, assisting as necessary
  • Being available for overtime to suit the needs of the business
  • Helping with other nursery work if required
  • Working flexibly, which may require working outside normal hours to avoid high
  • temperatures or adverse weather, or to minimise disruption to staff work

    Productivity

  • Maintaining quality and work practices at all times
  • Seeking to improve work rates, quality and effectiveness of all tasks
  • Carrying out work as efficiently and economically as possible

    Paperwork

  • Undertaking materials stock checks
  • Completing daily Labour Hours Recording
  • Keeping accurate plant protection product application records as required for BOPP Certification purposes
