Job Description

Service Manager - Gosport - Playing a vital role in ensuring the operational readiness of lifesaving appliances for navy vessels, cruise ships, ferries and other vital infrastructure!

Put your leading traits and maintenance/service experience to good use by supporting a genuine good cause overseeing a team of Service Engineers who ensure the maintenance and servicing of lifting and handling equipment for Lifeboat, Rescue Boat, and Life craft Systems. As a Service Manager, you'll be overseeing annual, 5-yearly, and ad hoc servicing requirements for all vessel/rig Life Saving Appliance equipment.

Tell me more! Paying circa £40,000, working 37.5 hrs per week this is an office based maintenance and servicing role. They'll offer benefits such as company pension, mobile phone, free on-site parking, 27 days holiday, Medi cash benefit, and more.

The Team?

You'll have a Service Administrator report into you and overall, you'll be managing a team of 13 Engineers - 3 based across the UK with 10 based out of the Gosport office.

A good proportion of the team have been with the company for 10+ years, some over 20 years - they have strong staff retention! Experiences are all mechanically biased with some having particularly good hydraulic knowledge.

Importantly the service and maintenance team are all positive, proactive, approachable, highly organised so it is vital that this manager is a good listener and able to build rapport with the team.

What will I do?

You'll regularly monitor costs to ensure revenue and margin targets are met. Focus on delivering high standards of service and submitting reports and certification to the customer and ensuring their satisfaction. Keep the engineers happy and fully utilised and assisting them to deal with any issues that arise. As part of this role you'll also review customer work packs and job specs, manage logistics for engineers' mobilisation and demobilisation.

What are we looking for?

  • A good understanding of complex mechanical equipment
  • Demonstrable experience of leading/supervising other engineers
  • Strong communication skills / demonstrable experience of leading servicing projects
  • A good engineering/maintenance/servicing background.
