Job Description

We are looking to recruit a Student Support Assistant to assist our client's establishment and their students. You will be supporting students aged from 2 years to 25 years, some of whom have life limiting conditions. All students will have physical and other disabilities. You will be working alongside OT's, Physio's, and Nurses to pro-actively ensure the students are fully supported in all aspects of their education, daily living, personal care, moving and positioning needs, communication, emotional and social routines.

About the Role:

  • To carry out and follow all aspects of the individual care plans.
  • To support the students in all aspects of their vocational and educational needs. To help fulfil achievements such as life skills and independence.
  • Support the students with meals and all nutritional requirements to include regular medication and gastrostomy feeds, there may be some more clinically advanced skills required but you will be supported by Registered Nurses to carry out these practices.
  • To encourage the students to be as independent as possible and supporting them in their decision making and their communicative skills.
  • To assist the students to achieve their Individual Learning Plan/Education Plan goals.
  • To encourage and assist the students to become involved in social activities.
  • To keep robust computerised records in line with the regulatory requirements of all support provided
  • Assisting the students with outings both individual and group which take them off site. Ensuring all care needs are met.
  • Assisting with all medical appointments/hospital admissions

Applying SSA's will ideally possess the skills and mindset capable of working with vulnerable Children and Young People in a residential/educational setting. As a SSA you will be emotionally resilient, patient, and empathetic, understanding the need for consistency in your approach. The ability to create and maintain safe working boundaries between you and the Children or Young People you will be supporting is of paramount importance. These are Young People who can at times, display behaviours that are challenging. You will also need to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and understanding of safeguarding Children and Young People.
