A residential school based in rural West sussex, close to Crawley and Haywards Heath is recrutiing for a wellbeing mentor to work with children with SEN and challenging behaviour in a tranquil rural setting.
Based in an old country manor this independant school based on Steiner principles of education is well established in the residential and emotional needs of children who are unable to attend mainstream schooling. The school provides numerous alternative therapies including extensive horticultural provision and also equine therapy.
The role of the well being mentor includes providing a complementary service to assist all school staff in addressing the needs of children who require assistance in their barriers to learning. The focus is on the children achieving their full potential to access the curriculum and achieve their educational goals.
Your duties will include a high level of communicating with the children and classroom staff to determine actions to follow the schools behaviour policy, managing pupils whose behaviour is affecting their educational achievement as well as providing support to education staff to promote positive engagement in learning.
You will be required to run training sessions for existing staff and offer feedback to senior management and teaching professionals.
You will be expected to have at least 2 years experience in a similar SEN role working within a learning disability environment as well as a professional qualification in education or social care field..
Knowledge of childrens developmental and emotional needs is essential with the mindset focused on the varied needs of individual children.
